パブリッシャーのApogee Entertainmentと開発元のTrigger Happy Interactiveは、サバイバルホラーゲーム『Total Chaos』のVR版となる『Total Chaos VR Edition』をSteam VR向けに近日配信すると発表しました。

あわせて、PC（Steam）版の『Total Chaos』をすでに所有しているユーザーには、追加費用なしでVR版へのアクセスが提供されることも明かされています。さらに、Meta Quest 3SおよびMeta Quest 3向けのスタンドアローン版もMeta Horizon Storeにてウィッシュリストの登録受付が開始されました。

今回の発表内容

「VR Games Showcase」にて発表された『Total Chaos VR Edition』は、荒廃した孤島「Fort Oasis」を舞台とするサバイバルホラー『Total Chaos』をバーチャルリアリティ環境向けに最適化したタイトルです。

本作は単にオリジナル版をVRヘッドセットに移植しただけでなく、VR特有の操作感やプレイテンポに合わせてゲームプレイの再構築が行われています。アイテムの配置やリソースの配分が見直されたほか、一部のセクションやエンカウントのバランス調整が施されており、すでにオリジナル版をプレイしたことのあるプレイヤーにとっても新鮮な体験となるよう設計されています。

Steam VR版はSteam版購入者へ無料アップデートとして提供される予定です。また、Meta Quest 3SおよびMeta Quest 3向けスタンドアローン版については、配信時期や価格などの詳細情報は後日発表される予定となっています。

発表に合わせてアナウンストレーラーも公開されました。

ゲームの特徴

『Total Chaos』は、かつて石炭採掘コミュニティとして栄えたものの、現在は荒廃した孤島「Fort Oasis」を探索する一人称視点のサバイバルホラーゲームです。もともとは『DOOM II』の大型改変Mod（トータルコンバージョンMod）として制作され、数々の賞を受賞した経歴を持ち、のちに完全なスタンドアローン作品として開発されました。

開発を手掛けるSam Prebble氏は、アクションFPS『Turbo Overkill』の制作や、映画『アバター』『ホビット 思いがけない冒険』『猿の惑星: 創世記』における視覚効果（VFX）制作に携わった経歴を持っています。

本作の主な特徴は以下の通りです。

  • VRに最適化された探索とサバイバル

閉所恐怖症を引き起こすような狭い通路や廃鉱山、闇に潜む異形の怪物たちと至近距離で対峙します。物資の調達、限られたインベントリの管理、武器の作成や強化などをVRならではの臨場感で体験できます。

  • 全9章で描かれるダークな世界観

Fort Oasisの崩壊の真相と主人公自身の過去を、島内に残されたノートや環境を通じたストーリーテリング（環境ストーリーテリング）によって解き明かしていきます。

  • 個性豊かな敵との戦闘

それぞれ独自の行動パターンや攻撃手段を持つ怪物たちがプレイヤーの行く手を阻みます。

  • 豪華コンポーザーによるサウンドトラック

『サイレントヒル』シリーズで知られる山岡晃氏がオリジナルテーマおよびエンドクレジット楽曲を提供しているほか、オリジナルMod版のコンポーザーであるJason Dagenet氏やWilliam Braddell氏、ApogeeのChipper Hammond氏、Tim Stoney氏、Mathieu Hallouin氏が楽曲を手掛けています。

  • クリア後のやり込み要素「New Game+」

ゲームクリア後には、拡張されたストーリー要素、別エンディング、新たな死亡アニメーション、未探索エリア、そして執拗にプレイヤーを追跡する「The Hunter」が登場する「New Game+」が用意されています。
