There are countless fighting games in the world, but a title has finally appeared that realizes the crazy idea of using your “voice” as a controller. That game is Smack Talk.
This is a 2.5D platform fighter where you execute moves by screaming specific words into your microphone. Supporting up to 4 players online, if you play this with friends late at night, a sore throat the next day is inevitable. Here is our review of this chaotic “speak and strike” battle experience.
The Thrill of Turning “Words” into Physical “Violence”

The rules are simple: knock your opponent out of the stage to win. It’s a “Smash Bros” style system, but the decisive difference is that you use your throat, not your fingers.
Each character has specific “commands (words)” assigned to them, and attacks are triggered by pronouncing them into the microphone. For example, if you want to unleash a rapid-fire combo with the duck character, you have to desperately chant “Quack! Quack! Quack!” over and over again. To throw a banana, a grown adult has to shout “Banana!”
The voice recognition accuracy is surprisingly good, and the louder and more desperate you scream, the more violently your character seems to rampage on screen. This sensation that “the player’s energy is directly converted into attack power” creates a sense of unity you can’t get in traditional fighting games.
The Ultimate Party Game to Destroy Your Abs and Voice

The true value of this game is unlocked when playing with close friends. If you connect via voice chat while playing, what you hear isn’t tactical conversation—it’s a vortex of screaming nonsense words and explosive laughter.
The sight of players shouting special move names like “Water Wheel!” or “Fireball!” might sound like a duel between wizards, but in reality, it’s just a slapstick brawl. As the match progresses, throats get worn out, voices crack, or moves fail to register leaving characters standing still—even these mishaps turn into comedy.
While public lobbies can be a bit unstable at the moment, the fun in private matches with friends is genuine. The price is affordable (under $4 / ¥470), making it the perfect title to gift to a friend as a joke and forcibly drag them into the chaos.
Chaos and Potential of an Early Access Title

Being an Early Access title, there are definitely some rough edges in character balance and behavior. Some characters are too strong, and certain commands can be spammed, so in terms of competitiveness, it’s admittedly a bit “loose.”
However, “balance” is a trivial issue in this game. What this game offers is not precise strategy, but the primitive experience of “screaming and laughing with friends.”
It says “No Japanese Support,” but don’t worry. You don’t need English skills; you just need the courage to abandon your shame and a soundproof environment to avoid disturbing the neighbors. Get your throat lozenges ready and dive into this chaos.

Quack! Quack!」

「Water Wheel!」「Fireball!」
